Lions and tigers and turtles, oh my

Our first day in South Africa was terrifically fun.

First we settled into our quaint hotel, with lots of dead animals on the walls.

Then we set out to a small private reserve nearby for a tour of underground limestone caves and a view of lots of animals from the car: zebras, wildebeest, ostriches, cheetahs, several varieties of antelope (our guides only knew the Afrikaner names, which we could hardly pronounce), and lions.

Best of all, we ended the day in an animal creche, with the chance to play with young cats - we literally cuddled with 3-month old lions and tigers.

The pictures speak for themselves.

For Susan, the funniest part of the afternoon was that, after entering the area with the baby cats, Josh forgot all about the cats because he started to take pictures of turtles mating.

This is a true story. Let us repeat it: we have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to play with baby lions and photograph them, and Josh is off in the corner filming two turtles having sex.
